The Cherokee Strip Regional Heritage Center in Enid, Oklahoma is now hiring a part-time, on-call educator to join our team and assist with field trips, outreach, and living history programs.
A part-time, on-call educator will work closely with the education director and education staff to provide consistent and exemplary visitor experiences that are educational, enjoyable, and able to motivate people to want to learn more about the history of Oklahoma.
Candidates should be available for weekday mornings, occasional Saturdays, evenings, and occasional holidays, possess experience working with students of all ages, an appreciation of Oklahoma history, as well as the desire to dress in period clothing (late 19th/early 20th century). A sense of fun is a must!

- Learn and understand the elements and purpose of the Turkey Creek School program, Pioneer Life program, OERB program, and History Alive! on the Cherokee Strip program.
- Learn additional information about Oklahoma history, life in the late 19th/early 20th century, and the region of northwestern Oklahoma/Cherokee Outlet.
- Teach school children as a part of the Turkey Creek School, Pioneer Life, and OERB programs.
- Teach adults and families as part of our History Alive! on the Cherokee Strip program.
- Participate in educational and other specialty programs, rental programs, outreach, tours, and other offerings.
- May occasionally be asked to assist with admission and/or gift store sales.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications include, but do not require;
- Knowledge of Oklahoma history, ranging from pre-statehood Oklahoma Territory to modern-day.
- Experience with living history practices.
- Knowledge of historical research.
Some training is available. All candidates must pass a background check.
- Strong research, memorization, communication, writing, and organizational skills.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities, weather, scheduling, and activities.
- Ability to work with people of varying ages, skills, and capabilities.
- Ability to work effectively with other employees, visitors, and volunteers.
- Ability to solve problems and make decisions under pressure.
Candidates must possess a minimum of an associate's degree, bachelor's preferred, in education, history, public history, or a related field.
Must have experience teaching varying age groups and skill levels.
